Vehicles in German Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Officers stated they were notified by a individual who noticed a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police say early analysis indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.

City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.

A high-ranking official stated the incident left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
